Lessons from the Court
OK I’m an ex tennis professional. Roger Federer, arguably one of the best men tennis players in history lost the other day to Novak Djokovic (yes it is pronounced joke-a-vitch).
It took more than skill. It took a level of confidence that borders on (and perhaps crosses over to) arrogance. But it takes that. In fact it takes that to reach the highest levels of Real Estate also.
One of my clients, a young woman (28 years old) (I am into parentheses today. Can you tell?) is moving from her $100K house (good for her to have been smart enough to buy that at her age) to a much more expensive house. She is concerned about the “arrogant” message that may send to her friends.
I told her that with higher levels of success the fact is that some “friends” move away from you. You have to harden yourself against Agents in your office who begin to discriminate against you, competitive Agents who begin to knock your reputation, and most unfortunate of all, personal acquaintances that think you have or will change with your growing success.
Most people succumb to this and cap their success. The high producers learn to deal with it to achieve and exceed their goals. One of the costs of this is the personal challenges of dealing with people who misinterpret your growing skills, deserved confidence, and success.
