Reading is Fundamental
My high school girlfriend turned me on to books. Actually the women in my life have had a tremendous influence me. Kathrine Fay taught me to love reading. It started with the Godfather by Mario Puzo. Then I read through Puzo.
I mention this because there a website I love for buying books for myself and for others. It is Alibris.com. I have bought used copies of books that sell for $25.95 retail, on Alibris for $2.95 plus s&h comes to around seven dollars then when I get the book it is really as good as new. Sometimes I think it is new.
I worked with another trainer who will go unnamed because this is not a positive story. I was going to operate a coaching division of his company. After he saw me present one day he said,
Rich, you should say this and this because it makes you look like you are well read. I said to him, “I am well read.” I shortly ended the relationship with him.
Books are a gift we give our minds and our hearts. I believe you don’t have to finish every book you start, particularly non-fiction. I believe you can’t judge a book by its cover but you can most often judge it by its first chapter. I believe in devouring non fiction of any kind so that it captures your mind and when you put it down you notice that your imagination and the author has taken you to into the world of his or her words.
Happy reading!

I'm an avid reader. Most of the stuff available doesn't seem really good. Do you have any specific recommendations for real estate agent reading?

Agreed, most of the stuff available for reading is pretty mediocre. I have lots of favorites. On attitude and self esteem, I have all my coaches read Louise L. Hay’s “You Can Heal Your Life.” On Real Estate I review all the articles I come across and about a 20% I get some new idea or thought. I don’t know of a really good book specifically about Real Estate. Early in my career I did the same with loads of books. That is, I would go to the library and read parts of dozens, take out a half dozen and read as much of them as interested me. I read the obligatory, Steven Covey, “Freakonomics,” and the others that are the business best sellers each year. I read a few on addiction a couple years ago when I had a string of clients who were recovering from one thing or another.
Off the cuff I can’t think of a lot of others. I’ll write an article with a bunch more once I’ve dug around in the boxes of books. Enroll in our Rich Levin's Success Corps inc. Success Club. All of my articles are sent to members first and then posted in the member’s library.
