Cutting Commissions???
I seldom meet an Agent I don’t like or respect. But every once in a while…
Those of you, who know me, know me as very pragmatic. My DISC assessment is high D which indicates strong results orientation. So, it is not surprising that I don’t have a problem reducing a commission in the final stages of a negotiation when all else is lost and it is either take less or lose it all for good.
Agents who offer reduced commissions because they lack skills hurt everyone. They hurt their family who has to live on less. They hurt their clients who get less because the Agent can’t afford to invest in marketing. They hurt the profession that is full of hard working committed men and women.
Then when that Agent offers less after just a few years in the business, opens his or her own company so that they can still offer a full co-broke but take less without the community knowing about it, I get a little angry (again a high D characteristic).
I met one of these discount Agents and my own visceral reaction surprised me. I guess I have a level of respect for what we do that is deeper than I realized.
So for those of you out there who cut commissions a little too readily or who do it as a competitive advantage, please consider that you are worth a full retail price or at least you can be with discipline, better training, and probably some added respect for what you do.

Yes, most people fail to ask the agent what type and where they will be marketing their property.
